What Color do you bleed
Annual Alumni Club Blood Drive
A note from Ken Kane of the Syracuse Alumni Club: "Trying to schedule this fall’s drive has been challenging, what with the lockdown, football conference decisions on whether to play, and evolving team schedules. It’s almost enough to say, “Let’s punt until next year.” Except that the need for blood is constant, especially in a pandemic.
So, we’ll be holding our ninth annual multi-alumni club blood drive on Saturday, Sep. 12. It will run from 11:30am – 4:30pm at Old Market Pub, 6959 SW Multnomah Blvd. in Portland. You and your members can sign up to donate blood by going to www.redcrossblood.org, using the sponsor code WHATCOLOR, and choosing the Sep. 12 drive.
If your team is playing that day, the game should be on inside the pub, which is equipped for socially distanced viewing. There is also outside, socially distanced seating available, though there are no screens out there.
Whether or not your school is playing fall football, I’d love to see members of your club that day, particularly those who donate blood! Those who donate will receive an email good for a free haircut at SportClips. I expect our friends at Old Market Pub will also offer an incentive, as they do each year. More importantly, the Red Cross is testing all blood collected for COVID-19 antibodies. An antibody test assesses whether your immune system has responded to the infection, not if the virus is currently present. A few days after the drive, donors will be notified of their test results."
